DIY Teeth Whitening

With every decade that goes by, our teeth darken at least 1 to 2 shades darker. It is proven that a whiter pearlier smile, can wipe years off of your face, making you look younger. Your teeth and smile are one of the first things people notice when they look at you. Having white teeth is a sign of beauty, youth and good health.

Unfortunately, there are many factors that can cause our teeth to get darker over time. Genetics for one, plays a huge role in the darkening of our teeth but there are also bad habits such as smoking, drinking, coffee, acidic juices such as orange juice etc. Nutrition and how you take care of your teeth also plays a part in this. It is important to eat right and to floss and brush your teeth 2x a day.

Enamel is also the leading factor in teeth darkening.

What is enamel?

Think of the the enamel as some sort of transparent plastic shield that covers the dentin structure. The dentin structure grows causing the pigment inside our teeth to become more visible and prominent.

The obsession and new craze for teeth whitening and diy teeth whitening procedures, started not to long ago. From whitening your teeth at the dentists office to getting a quick whitening procedure done at the beauty salon, while you get your manicure done, we as a society have become obsessed.

Our toothpastes have whitening agents and bleaching agents in them as well as our mouth washes. We can now whiten our teeth at home or while driving in our cars, with trays or strips. These are all great but can also damage the enamel and/or cause our teeth to become sensitive. By educating yourself or using natural procedures, you can protect your teeth better.

Whiten teeth with baking soda

How to whiten your teeth with baking soda?

This diy teeth whitening procedure is one of the oldest tricks in the book but it’s one of the best. Mix baking soda and fresh squeezed lemon juice into a bowl. Before applying the mixture to your teeth, wipe your teeth with a clean cloth, to insure there is no saliva on your teeth. Apply the mixture. Do not leave it on for more than one minute. Brush it of with your toothbrush.

DIY teeth whitening | Strawberries to whiten teeth

Do strawberries whiten teeth? Absolutely, strawberries are natural bleaching agents. They also contain vitamin C which gets rid of the plaque on our teeth, causing them to whiten. Strawberries also contain astringent in them which works to remove surface stains.

Eat an apple

Has anyone ever told you that eating an apple is equivalent to brushing your teeth? Well it’s true. Now I wouldn’t give up brushing my teeth versus eating an apple every morning and night, but eating an apple acts like a toothbrush. Why? Because eating and chewing an apple gets rid of surface stains, thus getting rid of bacteria and food in the mouth. It also contains malic acid. Malic acid helps to dissolve stains and is an ingredient used in teeth whitening and teeth bleaching products.
